This gorgeous totem pole stands outside the U’Mista Cultural Centre in Alert Bay, located on Cormorant Island just next to Malcolm Island. The centre has a large collection of ritualistic artwork that was forcefully taken away from the First Nations but has now been returned to the community.
The town, easily accessible by ferry from Port McNeil just like Sointula, also has a cemetery with several totems and a small campground, but a word of warning: the hill up to the campground is extremely steep.
